Our Founders
Founded in 2016 by six marine researchers, Nordic SeaFarm was born from a simple insight: seaweed holds the key to a more sustainable future. Combining scientific excellence with entrepreneurial ambition, the founders transformed breakthrough research into a company now leading the scale-up of cultivated seaweed in Europe

Meet The Founders

Elisabet Brock
PhD, Co-founder
Elisabet has a PhD in marine ecology with research in chemical defense in brown macro algae. She originally trained as a teacher and has more than 40 years of experience as an educator. As co-founder of Nordic SeaFarm she worked as the initial CEO and Board Chair of the company. Currently Elisabet is the convening person for the Scientific Advisory Board of Nordic SeaFarm.

Gunnar Cervin
PhD, Co-founder
Gunnar currently works as principal research engineer with a research background in marine botany at Gothenburg university. He has 30 years of experience in marine ecology, marine chemical ecology and cultivation of macro algae. As cofounder of Nordic SeaFarm Gunnar
contributes with technical improvement of cultivation methods, processing, chemical analyses and
maintenance of infrastructure.

Fredrik Gröndahl, PhD
PhD, Co-founder and Board Member
Fredrik has a background in marine biology and industrial ecology. His research focuses on sustainable production of Swedish seaweeds. He was the project manager for the first seaweed cultivation project for food, feed and biomaterials in Sweden, which sparked the idea of forming
Nordic SeaFarm. He is currently Director of “Blue food Center for future seafood “ (KTH, Sweden), in order to increase the domestic production of seafood. This project is funded by Formas (Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning), with 7 academic and 65 industrial partners involved.

Göran Nylund
PhD, Co-founder and Head of R&D/Hatchery
Göran has more than 20 years of experience in seaweed research and cultivation. He has important competence and a long experience in project management and data analysis. Göran is a co-founder of Nordic SeaFarm and leading the development of seaweed cultivation from
research to commercial scale. Göran works full time in the company.

Henrik Pavia
PhD, Co-founder
Henrik is professor in marine ecology at Gothenburg university with 35 years of research on macro algae. For the past 15 years Henrik has been project leader for several big research projects with focus on cultivation and valorization of macro algae with both national and international
partners in academia as well as industry. Sweden’s first sea-based cultivation of brown macro algae
was established within one of the projects. Henrik’s ongoing research focuses on red and green
macro algae and includes both sea based cultivation and new innovative solutions for cultivation of
algae in tanks.

Gunilla Toth
PhD, Co-founder
Gunilla is professor in Marine Ecology and has more than 20 years of research on macroalgae, specifically in chemical ecology, cultivating and restoration of certain species of kelp. Her work covers fundamental ecological principles to applications in circular and an environmentally sound cultivation of macro algae. As cofounder of Nordic SeaFarm Gunilla contributes with scientific competence for the development of a sustainable and innovative cultivation of macro algae.
